PREPARING CHILDREN FOR LIFE
May 10, 2020
Deuteronomy 6:4-9

“…And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children…”  Deuteronomy 6:6-7a (ESV)

  1.     LET THEM KNOW.

“I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore, I have continued to extend faithful love to you” Jeremiah 31:3 (CSB)

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.” Psalm 103:13 (CSB)

         Pillar:  It takes intentionality.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6 (ESV)

       2.     HELP THEM GROW.

“…and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”
Deuteronomy 6:7-9 (ESV)

Pillar: It takes being present for teachable moments.

“Teach them to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting at home, when you are out walking, at bedtime, and before breakfast!”  Deuteronomy 11: 19 (LB)

       3.    LET THEM GO.

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” Genesis 2:24 (ESV)

“You should each judge your own conduct. If it is good, then you can be proud of what you yourself have done, without having to compare it with what someone else has done. For each of you have to carry your own load.”  Galatians 6:4-5 (GN)
