Matthew 18:18-25

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior,
who is Christ the Lord.”
Luke 2:11 (ESV)

1. Forgiveness is free but not cheap.
“At this, the servant fell facedown before him and said, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you everything.’” Matthew 18:26 (CSB)
Forgiveness is not…
a. Minimizing the seriousness of the offense.
b. Resuming a relationship without changes.
2. Forgiveness is full.
“For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit.” I Peter 3:18 (ESV)
Forgiveness is not…
c. Forgetting what happened.
“We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (CSB)
3. Forgiveness is final.
“Then the master of that servant had compassion, released him, and forgave him the loan.” Matthew 18:27 (CSB)
Forgiveness is
d. Giving up my right to get even.
“Friends, do not avenge yourselves; instead, leave room for God’s wrath, because it is written, ‘vengeance belongs to me; I will repay’, says the Lord.” Romans 12:19 (CSB)
