Esther 4

1.    The Opportunity. (1-8)

“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you desolate.” Matthew 23:37-38 (ESV)

“And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  Joshua 24:15 (ESV)

 Application:  This week pray for opportunity awareness.

2.    The Cost. (9-11)

“Now great crowds accompanied him, and he turned and said to them…Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple. For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?” Luke 14:25, 27-28 (ESV)

“For David served God's purposes in his own time, and then he died…”  Acts 13:36 (GN)

3.   The Choice. (12-16)

“Go and assemble all the Jews who can be found in Susa and fast for me. Don’t eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my female servants will also fast in the same way. After that, I will go to the king even if it is against the law. If I perish, I perish.” Esther 4:16 (CSB)
