NEW FORMAT- “News, Views and Reviews”

I have changed the name and format of this spot on our web page.  My desire is to hopefully connect with more of the Olivet family.  Therefore,  it will change from a blog format to one with the intent to encourage and inform the Olivet family in their walk with the Lord and a connection with ministries of our church and community.  There are basically three things I hope to do.

1.            Information about upcoming church events or opportunities of involvement.

2.            To encourage  in our walk with Lord.   Peter encourages us to“… Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” II Peter 3: 18 I hope to use this format to encourage us in our daily walk with Christ.  Whether it is a devotional thought, thinking through biblical theology, or dealing with a current issue.  We all need encouragement to stay committed in our daily time with the Lord, to learn more about biblical truth and to learn to think more biblically about current issues.

3.            A monthly book review.  While there is nothing that replaces our time with the Lord, I want to encourage us to take time to read.  Reading is becoming a lost art in our culture.  We may think we don’t have time or would prefer to read the cliff notes or a summary on the internet but if we do we are missing out.  I hope to encourage us to read but not just read anything, read things that encourage us in our walk with God and our commitment to the kingdom.  There is such a heritage of Christian classics that can shape our lives and thinking, I believe there is great value in reading them.

I had a class in seminary at New Orleans called “The Christian Classics” taught by Dr. Daniel Holcomb that was awesome.  Because of that class I have tried to read most of the Christian classics that have impacted Christian thought and the world.  As I am getting older and looking at our culture, I have come to believe there will be tremendous value in taking a look at some of these classics to help us think Christianly.  I also hope to review current books.  These will not be academic reviews but a synopsis to hopefully encourage us and guide us in reading in a way that will help us grow.

With that in mind, I hope that at least a couple times a month you will check it out.  I look forward to the great adventure of listening to the Holy Spirit and moving forward in our walk with Christ.
