Living With Joy - Part 5

Philippians 2:12-18

“…work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.”   Philippians 2:12b (CSB)

 1.   THE CALL TO SPIRITUAL MATURITY. (12)

“For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift—not from works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 (CSB)

Point: Working out my salvation does not mean I work for my salvation but it does mean that I work with it.

“Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace?  Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death?” Romans 6:1-3 (NLT)

 2.   THE POWER FOR SPIRITUAL MATURITY. (13)

“For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13 (CSB)

“Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.  Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,” Ephesians 5:17-18 (NLT)

 3.   THE PURPOSE OF SPIRITUAL MATURITY. (14-18)

“So that you may be blameless and pure, children of God who are faultless in a crooked and perverted generation, among whom you shine like stars in the world, by holding firm to the word of life…” Philippians 2:15-16a (CSB)

“…Then I can boast in the day of Christ that I didn’t run or labor for nothing. But even if I am poured out as a drink offering on the sacrificial service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.” Philippians 2:16b-17 (CSB)

“In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Matthew 5: 16 (NLT)
