AUTHENTIC WORSHIP
The Encounters of Easter - Part 2
March 29, 2020
Matthew 21:1-11

THE WORSHIP OF THE CROWD

 1.   It was outwardly correct.

“Then the crowds who went ahead of Him and those who followed shouted: ‘Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!’” Matthew 21:9 (CSB)

 2.   It was historically correct.

“Rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion! Shout in triumph, Daughter Jerusalem!  Look, your King is coming to you; He is righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.” Zechariah 9:9 (CSB)

Problem:  Their worship was inaccurate and a show.

“The crowds were saying, ‘This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.’”  Matthew 21:11 (CSB)

REAL WORSHIP IS …

(John 4: 23-24)

  • AUTHENTIC (FROM THE HEART)

“…God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”  John 4:24 (CSB)

“For the eyes of the Lord roam throughout the earth to show himself strong for those who are wholeheartedly devoted to Him…” II Chronicles 16:9 (CSB)

  •  ACCURATE (BIBLICAL)

“God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth.”  John 4:24 (CSB)

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” II Timothy 3:16-17 (CSB)
