I John 1:8-11
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”   Luke 2:11 (ESV)

1. Honestly admit my sin.

“And I said: ‘Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!’” Isaiah 6:5 (ESV)

“…There is no one righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. All have turned away; all alike have become worthless. There is no one who does what is good, not even one. Their throat is an open grave; they deceive with their tongues. Vipers’ venom is under their lips. Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood; ruin and wretchedness are in their paths, and the path of peace they have not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Romans 3:10-18 (CSB)

2. Acknowledge the fault of my sin.

“But your iniquities are separating you from your God, and your sins have hidden his face from you so that He does not listen.” Isaiah 59:2 (CSB)

“If we say, ‘We have fellowship with him,’ and yet we walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth.” I John 1:6 (CSB)

3. Receive the gift of forgiveness.

“Let the wicked change their ways and banish the very thought of doing wrong.  Let them turn to the Lord that He may have mercy on them. Yes, turn to our God, for He will forgive generously.” Isaiah 55:7 (NLT)

“If we walk in the light as He himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”  I John 1:7 (CSB)
