REASONS
One of my professors said that theology could be described as “God-talk.” It is what we think and then verbalize about God. There is a lot of “God-talk” going on in our culture. It seems to me the talk in our culture about God is very different than it was even a few years ago. Years ago, at least from my experience most people talked about God from a Christian worldview and usually from a Catholic or Protestant point of view. That is just simply not the case anymore.

“I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.” Romans 1: 16 (NIV) As followers of Jesus, we are people who have embraced the Gospel. It truly is Good News. The Good News that God loved us so much that He sent His son, God in flesh, the second person of the trinity to come to earth and live a sinless life, that He died on the cross for our sins and He was raised to life on the third day is the best news in the world. By embracing the Gospel, Jesus finished work by faith we receive forgiveness from the power and penalty of our sin. THE GOSPEL IS THE BEST NEWS IN THE WORLD.
A FRESH START
FRESH START
One of the things I love about this time of year is that most of us look at the past year and see things we want to change about our lives and circumstances and set goals to make a change. Often we get more serious about our exercise and diet, doing better with our finances, spending more time with our family. We make these resolutions in our lives because we want to improve our quality of life.

I came across this book from the recommendation of another pastor in our city. I am glad he told me about it because it really is a good read. Our church family is familiar with the SHAPE concept by Rick Warren. This book takes that concept and drills even deeper in getting a better understanding of how God has uniquely created you, called you and equipped you for His purpose. It takes you on a journey of getting a better understanding of what God has created you to be and to do.

What a privilege it is to a part of the body of Christ. Last week I had the joy of being a part of a kingdom minded team who went to Brazil to build a church, do VBS and evangelism but most importantly the team had a mindset that said “Lord, we are here to serve you by serving the Brazilian people.” We had 15 from Olivet and 6 from the First Baptist Church of Claremore who made up the ministry team. Even though some of the team had never met until we met at the airport to leave, there was a bond because of our common faith in Christ and a desire to be used by Him. We truly grew to love each other and appreciate each giftedness to make our team stronger.
